Treatments
At the Harkány medicinal spa hospital the physical therapy and balneotherapy courses are individually tailored treatments that build upon and complement one another. The treatment process makes recovery without side-effects possible, since the naturally-based therapies reduce the need for drugs. Our wide spectrum of services provides an opportunity for everyone whose goal is to maintain or recover their health.
- Bathing pools
- The hospital has four pools filled with 32, 33, 34 and 36 degree Celsius medicinal waters where the bathing treatments take place. Due to the powerful physiological effects of the warm medicinal waters the maximum recommended bathing duration is 30 minutes at a time.
- Bathing tubs
- The duration of the treatments performed in the tubs filled with 33–36 ºC medicinal water, the temperature determined by the individual’s needs, is 25 minutes. This is primarily for those whose conditions demand privacy during the treatments.
- Filtered mud treatments
- The special feature utilized in this procedure is that the sterile natural mud is steeped in Harkány medicinal water. The filters filled with the natural mud are placed on one or more parts of the body, and to provide a lasting warming effect several layers of wraps are employed. During the course of the treatment the healing effects of the biologically active agents from the mud are absorbed through the skin have a more powerful effect. The duration of the treatment is 20 minutes.
- Traditional mud treatments
- The special feature of this procedure is that the sterile natural mud is steeped in Harkány medicinal water. The 4-5 cm thick Hévíz mud pack placed on the affected part of the body is covered in several layers of wraps to ensure a lasting warming effect. The healing effects of the biologically active agents that are absorbed through the skin can also have greater effect. The treatment lasts 20 minutes. For chronic gynecological inflammation we perform a special abdominal mud pack treatment.
- Effervescent bathing tubs
- Thanks to the blood vessel dilating effect of this treatment utilizing medicinal waters infused with carbonation it improves circulation and increases the capacity of the heart. It is recommended for patients who struggle with circulatory problems and cannot utilize the bathing treatments in medicinal waters in any other way.
- Therapeutic massage
- The 15, 30 or 45 minute special massages performed by a therapeutic masseur on the basis of doctor’s directions are based primarily on the methods of Swedish massage. They aid in reducing muscle stiffness and improving blood supply – and thanks to this reduce muscle pain as well.
- Underwater water jet massage
- This is a massage treatment performed with high pressure jets of medicinal water that combines the advantages of both massage and medicinal water. It strives to restore normal functioning by stimulating the injured muscles. The duration of the treatment is 15 minutes.
- Therapeutic exercises
-
The 25 minute therapeutic exercise treatments, which can include individual, group and underwater exercises, are led by certified physical therapists, and take place in our gyms equipped with therapeutic aids and devices, or in medicinal water baths. The therapy fosters the reduction of, or in many cases the complete recovery from, limitations to motion that have developed for various reasons.
We place emphasis on teaching our guests the series of movements and exercises so that they can continue them at home by themselves.
- Differentiation according to the individual exercise diagnoses
- Large group exercises, with a maximum of 12 people placed in different groups according to their diagnoses.
- Group underwater exercises led by a physical therapist in the hospital’s medicinal water pools with a maximum of 25 people placed in different groups according to the region of the body to be worked on.
- Electrotherapy
- The majority of these treatments are characterized by their muscle relaxant, pain reduction and blood supply increasing effects, but in addition to this each treatment has its own special indications. The treatments are performed in our institute’s electrotherapy unit, which allows for the treatment of 17 patients at one time through the aid of the most modern equipment.
